FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

 

What is the Apuldram Dog Field and where is it?

  • We are a pre-bookable, secure, fenced-in dog walking and exercise field in the Apuldram area of Chichester in West Sussex.

  • We are located just south of Chichester, close to the Salterns Way and Dell Quay Harbour.

  • Our postcode is PO20 7PE (The Apuldram Centre).

  • Turn into our shared site from Appledram Lane South.

  • The dog field car parking area and entrance to the secure field is on the right-hand side of the gravel car park, see red arrows and parking area on the map below.

Do I need to pre-book or can I turn up on the day and pay?

  • Pre-booking is required, any sessions available on the day (and advance) will be available to book using our online system.

  • We do not take cash or card walk-in bookings for the dog field at the Apuldram Centre reception or café/shop.

How do I book, how much does it cost and what payment methods can I use?

  • Booking is online and designed to be straightforward.

  • Session’s cost £11 each, this will be £11.50 from 1st May 2025 (this is inclusive of VAT).

  • We accept paypal, debit and credit card payments (excluding American Express).

How long does each booked session last?

  • Our sessions are for 50 minutes.

  • Adhering to these timings enables the field to run safely for all dogs and dog walkers.

What happens if I need to cancel my booking or do not attend a booked session?

  • You can manage your booking online, sessions booked can be transferred to an alternative available dates/session if they are changed at least 24 hours prior to the booking.

  • Sessions booked are non-refundable.

​

 

What if there is already a car in the designated secure car park?

  • For everyone’s safety, please do not enter the car parking enclosure until the people before have left as there could be loose dogs.

  • Please park up in an alternative car parking space and wait for the secure area to become free.

Traffic delays and alternative routes.

 

The Apuldram Dog Field is accessed from Appledram Lane South, P020 7PE

 

Appledram Lane South can be accessed from the North from the A259 Fishbourne Road or from the South via Dell Quay Road and A286 Birdham Road. 

 

Occasionally there are traffic delays in the local vicinity which may mean that you need to travel to Appledram Lane South using an alternative route using the north or south unaffected route. From the A259 and A286 follow the white and black directional signs to The Apuldram Centre.

Can I walk my dog with a friend or friends?

  • Yes. The secure car park will accommodate two regular sized vehicles. However, the total maximum number of dogs permitted (all breeds) to use the facility at any one time is 3 (this is determined by our planning permission)

  • Please only let your dog/s out of the vehicle once both cars are parked, and the gates are closed.

How many dogs can attend on my booking?

  • The total maximum number of dogs permitted to use the facility at any one time is 3 (this is determined by our planning permission)

Will any other people/dogs be using the space whilst I am using it?

  • No. The sessions are for your exclusive use.

  • However, our maintenance contractors may need to access to empty waste bins or conduct other essential tasks.

I have a reactive dog, is the dog field suitable? 

  • There are other people using the Apuldram Centre, but the field is exclusively yours for your booking. Parts of the perimeter fencing, and some gates are screened with netting and/or hedging (the hedging was planted Feb 2024 and isn’t yet fully established). The area outside and around our dog field is relatively peaceful, however it is quieter weekdays after 5pm, Saturday after 4pm, Sunday all day and bank holidays. If you require more info for a reactive dog, please email us with any questions and we will be happy to advise.

Are there any restrictions on the breed or size/number of dogs coming to use the field for each session?

  • The maximum number of dogs is 3 (this is determined by our planning permission).

  • Dogs can be exercised off lead, under supervision of the adult dog walker/s while inside the secure dog field area.

  • As per our terms and conditions we do not accept bookings for any banned breeds.

 

 

Is the field fully enclosed?

  • The field enclosure is fenced by a 1.9M perimeter metal fence, along with 1M high metal rabbit netting.

 

 

Can dogs be exercised off lead?

  • Yes. When you arrive, we request that you walk the perimeter of the field to assure yourself that it is safe for your own dogs needs off lead.  If you decide for any reason that it is not, for example your tiny terrier can squeeze through the stock fencing or your large lurcher can leap the high fences please keep your dog on the lead and use our contact form to let us know.

  • Dogs can be exercised off lead, under supervision of the adult dog walker/s while inside the secure dog field area.

  • Use of the space is at the dog owners risk and responsibility, so please keep your dog in-sight at all times whilst using the space.

 

 

Does the field get muddy?

  • The exercise field is grassed and is maintained with natural drainage.

  • During inclement weather and winter periods we recommend suitable outdoor footwear.

 

 

Is the dog field flat and accessible for wheelchair users, mobility scooters and/or parents with children's buggies/pushcairs?

  • The exercise field is relatively flat in gradient but can be uneven. Uneven ground can be concealed by grass or other natural vegetation.

  • The exercise field is grassed and is maintained as a natural environment.  As such there may be animal holes or mounds such as mole hills or rabbit holes and during wet weather it can become muddy.

  • The parking area and entrance pathway is set to gravel.

  • Wheelchair users, mobility scooter users and parents with buggies/pushchairs may experience some issues over gravel and natural lumps and bumps, muddy patches in the field. Please contact us by email if you would like to discuss your access requirements in any more detail.

How big is the space?

  • The exercise field consists of three areas; a car park and access pathway, agility field and second field.

  • The exercise field is 1805sq.m and the agility field 860sq.m hirers have access to both fields.

Is there CCTV?

  • There is CCTV across the Apuldram Centre site for the purpose of public and asset safety. 

  • There is a CCTV camera that captures images of the secure car parking and field entrance area.

  • Refer to website privacy notice and local signage for further information.

 

 

What should I do if someone is in the field when I arrive, during my booked slot?

  • We hope that this does not occur. However, if someone is in the field we advise you to wait until they have left, use the remainder of your booked time slot and notify us by email HERE.

Spring:  Start of BST to 30th April 2025

  • Monday to Friday 09.00 to 20:00 (last booking 19:00) 

  • Saturday 09:00 to 17:00 (last booking 16:00)

  • Sundays, bank holidays and other public holidays 10:00 to 16:00 (last booking 15:00)

 

Summer: 1st May to 31st August 2025

  • Monday to Friday 09.00 to 21:00 (last booking 20:00)

Is there lighting?

  • The exercise field is not illuminated to support the local clear skies policy.

  • For walks after sunset dog walkers should bring a torch or head torch.

 

 

Is there any parking on site and do I need to pay for it?

  • Free parking and secure parking is included in the session booking.

  • Additional parking is available at the Apuldram Centre for café/shop users.

What other facilities are available on site (e.g toilets, covered areas, dog washing facilities, cafe)?

  • There are no toilets within the dog field. 

  • There are toilet facilities across the Apuldram Centre site for customers/users.

  • Before or after the time slot we invite you to use our facilities (open to the public during the centre/shop opening hours) on site at the Apuldram Centre.

  • Dogs are permitted in designated areas where we serve refreshments. Dogs must remain on a lead and tethered.  Dog treats and dog ice-creams are available for purchase.

  • A cold-water tap and dog bowl is provided in the agility field and a hose and water bowl (is provided within the designated dog field parking area.  Dog walkers are asked to rinse and top up water bowls after use.

  • Please ensure your dog is on-lead in all areas of The Apuldram Centre, outside of the fenced dog field. This includes on-lead in the wider car parking area, the café and shop.

 

 

Are there any toys or agility equipment on site to use?

  • Yes. A Frame, hoop and seesaw.

  • Please do not use equipment in inclement weather, icy or wet conditions as equipment and surfaces may become slippery.

  • The use of, and supervision of equipment is the responsibility of the adult dog walker as per our terms and conditions.

 

 

Is there any shelter?

  • The dog exercise field faces south and can be warm during the summer.  There is natural shade from seasonal elements and weather conditions under the large oak tree and other fruit trees.

  • There is wooden shelter for dog walkers to seek protection from the weather in the agility field.

 

 

Do I need to pick up my dog’s poo in the field and are there poo bins and poo bags  provided?

  • Yes, dog walkers are required to clear up after their dog/s.

  • A poo bin and poo bag dispenser are provided in the parking area.

 

 

Who can I speak to if I have a problem and need to contact the Apuldram Dog Field in person?

What I do in an emergency?

  • If necessary, call 999.

  • The site address is The Apuldram Centre, Common Farm, Appledram Lane South, Chichester, West Sussex PO20 7PE.

  • A dog first aid kit in the shelter in the agility field.

  • There is a defibrillator outside the main reception office of the Apuldram Centre.

  • If you or a companion or dog/s suffer an injury or identify a significant defect we ask you report this to us HERE.

 

 

Are children allowed?

  • Bookings must be made by adults, dog/s exercised must be under the supervision of an adult.  Children (under the age of 18) are permitted to accompany adults, the supervision of children is the accompanying adult’s responsibility.

Is smoking permitted?

  • No smoking anywhere on site.

 

​

Can we have a picnic?

  • Picnics, BBQs or alcohol are not permitted within the dog field or at the the Apuldram Centre.
